Teachers have told us they are looking for ways to bring disability into the school day that fit the time they actually have. Our new Short Activities page gathers those options in one place, each designed to take between two and ten minutes.
They fit where you already have a few minutes: morning meetings, bell ringers, lesson starters, or transitions.
Six to start:
What Do You Know or Notice Slide Deck Activity. Everyday objects, spaces, and features, each with one question. Some students have seen hundreds of times, some will be new, and all connect to disability, access, and design.
Book Read Alouds. Short read-alouds featuring authentic disability representation.
Disability History and Culture Calendar. Month-long themes and date-specific entries for morning announcements, newsletters, and individual classrooms.
Describe This Image for Someone Who Cannot See It. A simple introduction to writing image descriptions.
Disability Rights Leaders: Quotes Slide Deck. Quotes from disability rights figures, on their own or alongside a lesson.
Accessibility Icons. Symbols students look at and question: have they seen it, what do they think it means, and does it represent its meaning well?
Each one works on its own or as a warm-up to a full lesson. This is a growing collection, so check back regularly.
