New! Disability Informed Reading Guides
We are pleased to announce our new Disability Informed Reading Guides.
Many commonly taught books and stories that feature disabled characters or disability-related themes include portrayals that can be confusing, stereotyped, or unintentionally harmful. And we've heard from teachers that they want to address these issues in the classroom but aren't always sure how to approach them well.
These guides are our response to that. They are not endorsements of the books themselves, but tools to support thoughtful conversations, offer important context, and encourage more inclusive, accurate discussions about disability.
We currently have guides for:
A Christmas Carol (6th - 10th grade)
Beauty and the Beast (6th - 12th grade)
The Catcher in the Rye (9th - 12th grade)
The Giver (5th - 8th grade)
Me Before You (9th - 12th grade)
Peter and Wendy (5th - 8th grade)
Richard III (9th - 12th grade)
Titus Andronicus (11th - 12th grade)
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (3rd - 7th grade)
