This lesson has students read, analyze, and compare three texts that all originate from the founding of the United States. Each text is primarily penned by a different author, each author a founding father who lived with a disability. This activity has students consider the goals and means of reaching those goals highlighted in each document, while also challenging them to think critically about why the authors’ disabilities are not frequently recognized when studying their lives and impacts. This activity also practices purposeful and guided annotation.
