Testimonials
“Through the program’s partnership with my mentor, I was able to get materials, videos, lesson plans and ideas for creating lessons to educate our students on disabilities and civil rights. This new knowledge base and experience with the lessons will be applied for years to come.”
— Denise, Philadelphia Middle School School District Teacher
“Disability Equality Education’s mentorship program gave me invaluable guidance in how to bring ideas, materials, and experiences into the classroom to educate their students on disability, past, present, and future. I feel that this mentorship program has helped me grow as an ally and become a better teacher to all my students.”
— Anna, Philadelphia High School Teacher
“I have had the opportunity to use monthly mentoring sessions as a means to increase the amount of disability-focused content in my classroom. As a special educator, or "inclusion specialist", it has been especially exciting to introduce my students to texts focusing on children with similar disabilities to them. When I struggled a bit including disability-focused stories, my mentor and the entire staff of DEE made finding relevant and age-appropriate, as well as skill level appropriate, text much more feasible.”
— Samantha, Philadelphia Elementary Special Education Teacher
