Community Support for Disability Inclusive Curriculum
Disability Inclusive Curriculum Belongs in Every Classroom!
Help schools reflect all of us - including disabled people.
Why It Matters
Most students never learn about disability as a part of human diversity, culture, and history. That leaves out more than 1 in 5 people—and sends the wrong message. Disability Inclusive Curriculum helps all students thrive.
What You Can Do
Talk to your schools about including disability from a social model lens regularly, across all subjects, not just on awareness days/months.
Talk with teachers, principals, and school board members and at school board meetings about why all inclusion efforts must have curriculum that is disability inclusive and why it matters.
Share your own experiences or concerns about what you or your students learned by default by not having a curriculum that is disability inclusive and ignores the social model of disability.
Ask: “What are students currently learning about disability, who has shaped what is being taught and who’s missing from that picture?”
Share our website with our free resources with teachers and administrators.
Encourage schools to hire us for professional development, mentorship, sign up for membership and more.
