Philadelphia Department of Recreation

DEE was invited to provide training to The Philadelphia Department of Recreation on October 22nd. The 2-hour training provided about 20 Recreation leaders from around the city on the principles of the social model, and other important perspectives when working with people with disabilities.

They were given suggestions on resources, books and videos they may want to include in their programs. 

The participants were engaged and enjoyed the interactive exercises. We look forward to working with them more in the future.

PEAC 20th Anniversary Celebration & Conference

On October 19th we attended the PEAC 20th Anniversary Celebration & Conference.

Lisa Aquila presented a session on Disability Inclusive Currculum and DEE offered their resources at an exhibit table. Later we attended a lovely dinner and networking event.

Inclusive Schools Week: Dec 2 - 6

Since its inception in 2001, Inclusive Schools Week has celebrated the progress that schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economic status, cultural heritage, language preference, and other factors. The Week also provides an important opportunity for educators, students, and parents to discuss what else needs to be done in order to ensure that their schools continue to improve their ability to successfully educate all children.

December 3 - International Day of People with Disabilities

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
