Building our movement for Disability Inclusive CurriculumA message from our founder and director, Alan Holdsworth:Our goal in DEE is to create a movement for a disability inclusive curriculum which is overseen and vetted by the disabled people the curriculum represents. We want to give every educator the tools they need to create a generation who understand disability, having disabled led and guided classroom conversations which include disabled people who represent at least 25% of all populations. To this effect, we are seeking disabled-led organizations, disabled teachers, and allies to grow this movement both nationally and internationally who want to join our advocacy for the curriculum and build on the resources for all teachers to use to have classroom conversations that could change our society. We are looking to involve activists who will advocate for the curriculum but also challenge non-disabled-led organizations producing damaging curriculum based on old-fashioned stereotypes. We are looking for trainers and educators who can work with us to create, share, and provide professional development in their area of influence who we can work with and learn from each other. To this end, we want to hold 2 initial meetings. The first meeting will discuss creating a unified national network, advocating for a disabled-led and vetted curriculum across the States and across the world. This will be a chance for advocates to recognize each other and identify the key issues in their advocacy for a disability inclusive curriculum and how to challenge misguided curriculum that is not representational. The second meeting, for educators, will become a network of educators who agree with our principle of nothing about us without us and how we can work together sharing ideas, resources and how we can market them in our communities. What we are trying to achieve cannot be done individually by any one disabled person, even less by non-disabled people without our collective guidance.
